I am Johannes Machinya, a passionate Data Scientist and Actuarial Expert with a strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and business analytics. Recently graduated with a Master of Science in Business Analytics at the University of Notre Dame, I combine technical expertise with a knack for solving complex problems in industries like healthcare, conservation, and finance.

With a background in actuarial science from the University of Zimbabwe (4.0/4.0 converted GPA) and experience leading impactful projects, I aim to leverage data to drive informed decisions and create innovative solutions. 

My journey includes
  • Building predictive models such as a heart attack risk prediction system and a sentiment analysis tool for Procter & Gamble.
  • Leading a team of students on data science projects as Co-Founder of H&J Consultancy.
  • Sharing knowledge through my YouTube channel, H&J Online Academy, reaching a global audience with simplified tutorials on data science and mathematics.
Skills

I am proficient in Python, R, and SQL for data analysis and modeling, with experience in data visualization using Tableau and R Shiny. I have expertise in machine learning techniques, including Random Forests, XGBoost, and sentiment analysis, as well as a strong background in actuarial science, financial engineering, and risk management. My skills also include research and technical writing for academic and business purposes, alongside effective leadership, team collaboration, and mentoring abilities.
